WBA issues private 5G, Wi‑Fi security guidance
The Wireless Broadband Alliance has published a security framework to help enterprises run private 5G alongside existing Wi‑Fi and IT systems. The guidance, set out in its report ‘Enterprise Security for Private 5G Networks’, promotes a converged zero‑trust model built on open standards and shared policies so companies can apply consistent rules across wired and wireless networks.
The alliance argues that as organisations digitise more operations, the attack surface grows and security needs to keep pace. The report highlights how private 5G and Wi‑Fi can be combined for reliable connectivity, using tools such as the pxGrid protocol for secure data exchange between fixed and wireless networks, plus multi‑access edge computing and AI analytics for real‑time anomaly detection and automated responses. A second phase of work will focus on strengthening operational security intelligence, including central monitoring, SIEM integration, AI‑driven anomaly detection and better coordination of security operations centres.
