Virewirx, Globalstar win $1.9M Pentagon 5G research deal
Virewirx, the startup formerly known as XCOM Labs, and satellite operator Globalstar have secured a $1.9 million contract from the US Department of Defense to work on next-generation private 5G. The FutureG research award tasks the companies with developing and testing a private 5G system that can meet military requirements.
The project will explore how commercial 5G technology and spectrum can support defense communications, including more secure and flexible networks for bases and field operations. The contract is part of a broader Pentagon push to adapt commercial wireless advances for military use rather than building separate, bespoke systems.
