There's pent-up demand for upstream capacity on DOCSIS networks – study
A new OpenVault "Broadband Insights" report finds a clear gap in how customers use upload speeds on different broadband technologies. Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) users upload much more data than subscribers on DOCSIS cable networks, even when they have similar download speeds.
OpenVault says that difference points to untapped demand: DOCSIS networks may be limiting what customers do upstream, rather than reflecting what they actually want to do. The findings arrive as cable operators weigh network upgrades, including DOCSIS 3.1 improvements and DOCSIS 4.0, to boost upstream capacity and keep pace with fiber rivals.
