Telefonica Tech readies self-sovereign identity tool ahead of EU rules
Telefonica Tech has launched a self-sovereign identity (SSI) product aimed at helping people and organisations control what personal data they share online, ahead of new European Union rules on digital identity. The company says the service aligns with the EU’s planned SSI framework and supports the rollout of the EU Digital Identity wallet, targeted for the end of the year.
The product is built around core SSI principles, including user control of information, managing access to digital credentials and handling the authorisations required to share them. Telefonica Tech bundles professional services with the tool, advising public bodies and private companies on deployment and running a blockchain-based system to track and verify credentials. The company points to use cases such as releasing credentials only when needed, limiting access to relevant data and checking that any shared information is legitimate.
