Taiwan seeks arrest of OnePlus CEO Pete Lau over alleged illegal recruiting
Taiwanese prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for OnePlus chief executive Pete Lau, accusing him and two employees of breaking the island’s rules on dealings with mainland China. Authorities say the group violated the Act Governing Relations Between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, known as the Cross-Strait Act, by allegedly recruiting Taiwanese engineers and transferring technology to the mainland without approval.
The case is part of a broader push by Taiwan to tighten control over sensitive know-how in key sectors such as semiconductors and communications gear. Officials have stepped up investigations into suspected technology leaks and unregistered China-linked operations, as Taipei tries to keep its advanced tech base from feeding competitors across the strait.
