Taara's 'Lightbridge Pro' wireless platform targets 20-Gig
Taara, the free-space optics company spun out of Google’s X research lab, has launched Lightbridge Pro, a carrier-grade wireless platform designed to deliver up to 20 Gbit/s using laser links instead of traditional radio signals. The system targets operators that need high-capacity backhaul without laying fiber, particularly in places where digging is slow, costly, or blocked by terrain or regulation.
Lightbridge Pro aims to slot into existing carrier networks as a high-throughput alternative or supplement to fiber and microwave. By sending data over narrow beams of light through the air, Taara is pitching a way to extend high-speed connectivity across urban gaps, rivers, or hard-to-reach areas while keeping to telecom reliability standards.
