T-Mobile US outpaces rivals as broadband becomes new battleground
The three national mobile carriers are leaning hard into broadband as their next area of competition, focusing on expanding coverage, keeping customers from switching, and squeezing more value out of their networks over time. T-Mobile US is pulling ahead on this front, leading its rivals in new postpaid mobile and broadband subscribers. The company’s early push into 5G standalone technology and faster scale-up of fixed wireless access have given it an advantage.
Verizon and AT&T are also pushing to grow broadband and improve margins, but face a tougher climb to match T-Mobile’s current pace. As mobile growth slows, broadband is becoming a key test of which carrier can turn large 5G investments into stable, long-term revenue.
