Spain Proposes Minimum 4-Hour Power Backup for Telecom Networks
Source: Telecompaper HeadlinesDecember 3, 2025
Spain’s government has published draft rules to tighten emergency planning across the telecom sector, proposing that operators keep at least four hours of power backup for key network elements. The aim is to keep phone and data services running during blackouts or other crises so that users can still reach emergency services and basic communications are not cut.
The consultation outlines new resilience obligations for telecom providers, including clearer continuity plans and stronger safeguards for critical infrastructure. The measures are part of a broader effort to harden Spain’s communications networks against power failures and other disruptions.
