SpaceX files for 'Starlink Mobile' trademark
SpaceX has applied for a US trademark on "Starlink Mobile," signaling another step toward tying its satellite network more closely to traditional cellular service.
The filing adds to speculation that SpaceX wants a bigger role in mobile connectivity beyond its current satellite internet business. Analysts say the clearer test of that ambition will be whether the company shows up in the upcoming upper C-band spectrum auction, which is important for 5G and other terrestrial wireless services. Roger Entner of Recon Analytics notes that SpaceX’s participation there would reveal how serious it is about competing directly in the cellular market.
