SoftBank, Ericsson and Qualcomm trial 5G and 5G-A
SoftBank, Ericsson and Qualcomm have run a live 5G standalone trial in Tokyo that focuses on cutting network lag. By combining 5G and 5G Advanced features such as L4S (Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable throughput), the companies reported about a 90% reduction in wireless link latency compared with setups that did not use these technologies.
The test shows how 5G Advanced upgrades can make existing 5G networks more responsive, which matters for time‑sensitive uses like real-time control, cloud gaming and industrial automation. The trial used a commercial-style environment rather than a lab, aiming to show what these latency gains could look like in a live network.
