Singtel boosts AI compute capacity

Singtel’s data centre arm Nxera has opened a new 58MW facility in Singapore, lifting its total data centre capacity in the country to 120MW. More than 90% of the new DC Tuas site was pre-committed before launch. The eight-storey, 11,100-square-metre data centre links directly to a cable landing station, giving customers lower latency and more reliable access to domestic and international networks.

Singtel describes DC Tuas as Singapore’s highest power density, most energy-efficient, liquid-cooled multi-tenant data centre. It runs partly on solar power and has a power usage effectiveness of 1.25, supported by smart thermal management, high-efficiency electrical systems, and direct-to-chip liquid cooling. Singtel financed the project with SGD643 million ($476 million) in loans. Nxera expects its operating and planned capacity to more than double to 400MW in the medium term, and, together with partners, aims to hire 500 staff by July 2025. In Malaysia, its TM Nxera joint venture with Telekom Malaysia has secured 280MW of power from Tenaga Nasional for a data centre in Johor, which is due to start its first commercial phase this year.
