Singtel begins 50Gbit/s XGS-PON broadband trial in Singapore
Singtel has started a technical trial of 50Gbit/s XGS-PON fiber broadband in Singapore, pushing its fixed network well beyond current gigabit speeds. The company is testing how the technology handles much heavier traffic loads, with an eye on cloud, AI and other data-hungry services expected to grow over the next three to five years.
The trial focuses on upgrading the access layer of Singtel’s existing fiber network, not replacing it. By layering 50G capability on top of current infrastructure, Singtel aims to support faster connections for homes and businesses while keeping future upgrade costs lower. The results will guide when and how it rolls out higher-speed services more widely across the country.
