Rakuten Mobile to deploy 1Finity O-RAN radios at scale
Rakuten Mobile plans to roll out 1Finity’s 32T32R massive MIMO O-RAN radio units across its 5G network, using the 3.7 GHz band. The operator aims to add capacity and strengthen coverage in busy areas by upgrading large parts of its radio access network with these units.
The 1Finity radios are designed to be interoperable and cloud-native, fitting into Rakuten Mobile’s open RAN architecture rather than locking the network into a single vendor stack. The deployment is intended to support higher traffic loads while keeping the network flexible for future upgrades and vendor changes.
