Rakuten Mobile rolls out 1Finity open RAN radios
Rakuten Mobile plans to deploy new massive MIMO radio units from 1Finity in its cloud-native, open RAN network this year. The rollout is positioned as part of Rakuten’s broader push to expand and modernize its radio access network using open, software-driven infrastructure.
The 1Finity radios are designed to work within Rakuten Mobile’s existing open RAN architecture, which separates hardware and software and runs key network functions in the cloud. According to the company, this approach is meant to lower costs, make upgrades easier, and allow more vendors to supply equipment into the network.
