Qualcomm unveils first 3GPP Rel 19 modem for 5G phones
Qualcomm Technologies has introduced what it says is the first smartphone modem built to support the 3GPP Release 19 standard for advanced 5G networks. The new chipset aims to handle higher data speeds, lower latency and more efficient use of spectrum than earlier generations, positioning phone makers to support upcoming 5G features as networks adopt Rel-19.
By moving early on the new standard, Qualcomm is targeting handset vendors that want to keep premium devices aligned with the latest network upgrades. The company is pitching the Rel-19 modem as a way to future‑proof 5G phones as mobile operators roll out more advanced services under the new 3GPP specifications.
