Partners praise private 5G deployments
Ericsson, Vodafone Portugal and cement producer Cimpor are promoting the impact of newly installed private 5G networks across Cimpor’s main sites in Portugal, with plans to extend the model to other locations. Vodafone Portugal led installation, configuration and integration of the systems using Ericsson equipment, which now connect IoT sensors, autonomous vehicles and other systems at three cement plants.
The partners say the networks improve asset monitoring, operational efficiency and safety in demanding industrial environments. Cimpor’s global CTO Berkan Fidan called the move a key step in making operations more resilient, efficient and safe, and a base for future digital applications. Vodafone Portugal executive Henrique Fonseca framed the deployment as a way to sharpen industrial competitiveness by enabling faster data use and more remote activities.
