Orange and partners to demo D2D satellite connectivity in Romania
Orange has signed a memorandum of understanding with AST SpaceMobile and Satellite Connect Europe to work on direct-to-device satellite connectivity in selected Orange markets. The collaboration focuses on testing and demonstrating technology that allows standard mobile phones to connect directly to satellites, without extra hardware.
As part of this partnership, the companies plan to run a direct-to-device satellite connectivity demo in Romania. The trial will help them assess how the technology performs in real conditions and how it could extend mobile coverage in areas where traditional networks are weak or absent.
