Ookla’s big week: 5G slice validation with Ericsson and a surprising exit from Ziff Davis
Network testing firm Ookla has rolled out a new way to measure how individual 5G network slices perform, working with Ericsson to build the method into its Speedtest app. The approach lets operators and users see performance by slice instead of only looking at the overall 5G network, which could help carriers tune service levels for different types of customers and applications.
The company also made a sharper move on the corporate side, separating from its parent, Ziff Davis. The exit marks a shift for Ookla from being part of a larger digital media and services group to operating on its own, even as it targets more technical, slice-aware testing for both consumers and communications service providers.
