MaiaSpace scores Eutelsat LEO launch deal
Eutelsat has signed a multi-launch agreement with French rocket company MaiaSpace as it moves to expand its low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation. The deal will use MaiaSpace’s reusable mini launcher, a 50-metre vehicle with four engines, a 3.5-metre diameter and capacity to carry up to 4 tonnes into inclined orbits. The first launch under the agreement is planned for 2027.
Eutelsat’s chief engineering officer Arlen Kassighian said MaiaSpace adds a complementary launch option, helping secure continuity of service for its existing and future LEO fleet. MaiaSpace CEO Yohann Leroy framed the contract with an established operator as proof the launcher is ready to deploy or replenish satellite constellations. The agreement follows Eutelsat’s recent decision to order additional LEO satellites from Airbus.
