Intracom Telecom and GeoLinks Prove Multi-Gigabit Fixed Wireless Over Long Distances
Intracom Telecom and GeoLinks have completed a joint fixed wireless field trial in Las Vegas during WISPAPALOOZA 2025, showing multi-gigabit performance over licensed spectrum. Using Intracom’s WiBAS G5 Smart Base Station on GeoLinks’ Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) spectrum in the 29/31 GHz band, the partners achieved 1.6 Gbps of aggregate throughput over a 5‑mile link. The test was designed to show that licensed millimetre-wave fixed wireless can deliver stable, “fiber-like” connectivity without interference.
GeoLinks, the largest LMDS license holder in the U.S., says the trial confirms its spectrum is commercially and operationally ready and now open to Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) across 1,300 counties. Intracom’s base station uses hybrid massive beamforming and dynamic capacity allocation to connect many subscribers and withstand tougher environments. Together, the companies are pitching this combination as a way for WISPs to extend high-speed, licensed, fixed wireless service to areas where laying fiber is slow or expensive.
