Internet goes down again: Cloudflare impacted by another outage
Cloudflare is facing fresh scrutiny after another disruption hit internet services this morning, affecting platforms including Zoom, Canva, LinkedIn and Down Detector. The company, which manages internet traffic for thousands of websites, reported scheduled maintenance at its Detroit data centre between 09:00 and 13:00 UTC, warning that traffic would be rerouted and latency could rise for users in the region. An update was also reportedly applied at its Chicago facility.
The latest problems arrive only weeks after a major Cloudflare outage in November, when an overgrown, auto-generated configuration file crashed key traffic management software and took down large parts of the internet. That incident reignited debate over the risks of so much online infrastructure depending on a single provider. At the time, Cloudflare CTO Dane Knecht called the impact and recovery time "unacceptable" and promised changes. Capacity has requested further comment from Cloudflare on today’s disruption and will update coverage as more details are confirmed.
