India’s Vodafone Idea confirms debt deal
Vodafone Idea has confirmed that the Indian government will freeze its adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues for the period from financial year 2006–07 to 2018–19 from 31 December 2025. The move, widely anticipated in recent coverage, gives the debt-laden operator a clearer timeline on historic payments owed to the state.
AGR dues have been at the centre of Vodafone Idea’s financial strain for years, as court rulings and back payments piled pressure on the operator’s balance sheet. The freeze does not erase the liabilities, but it pauses further accruals on this slice of debt from the specified date, buying the company time as it works to stabilise operations and funding.
