Huawei reclaims China’s top smartphone spot amid market dip
Huawei has returned to the top of China’s smartphone market for the first time in five years, according to research firm Omdia. The company narrowly took first place in a market that is shrinking overall, highlighting how tight competition has become among major handset makers.
The shift marks a significant comeback for Huawei after years of pressure from US trade restrictions, which disrupted its access to key components and software. While total smartphone shipments in China continue to decline, Huawei’s climb back to the number one position shows it has rebuilt enough of its supply chain and product appeal to overtake rivals in a contracting market.
