Eutelsat orders 340 new OneWeb satellites in major Airbus deal
Eutelsat has ordered 340 new low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites from Airbus Defence and Space to expand its OneWeb constellation, as pressure grows in the global satellite broadband market. The follow-on order signals a long-term bet on LEO capacity to deliver high-speed connectivity, especially in regions where fibre and mobile networks fall short.
The satellites will join OneWeb’s existing fleet, which targets broadband coverage for businesses, governments and telecom operators. By extending the constellation, Eutelsat aims to boost network resilience, increase capacity and keep pace with rivals building similar space-based internet systems.
