Ericsson, Mistral aim to remake telecom networks with AI
Ericsson has partnered with French startup Mistral AI to plug large AI models directly into its network research and product development work. The companies plan to focus on specific, high-impact uses rather than broad promises, including translating legacy code, supporting 6G research and building custom AI agents for Ericsson’s internal network tools.
The joint work will centre on AI systems trained on Ericsson’s own data and engineering environments, with the goal of improving how networks are built, monitored and upgraded. Both companies say they want to set new standards for secure and resilient telecoms infrastructure suited to carrier-grade requirements. The deal comes shortly after Mistral AI pledged €1.2 billion for a new data centre in Sweden, deepening its presence in Ericsson’s home market.
