Ericsson completes pre-standard 6G trial in US, ties up with Qualcomm
Ericsson has completed a pre-standard 6G trial in the United States and entered into a collaboration with Qualcomm to push early development of the next-generation mobile technology. The trial, run before any formal 6G standard exists, is part of wider research efforts aimed at defining how future networks will handle heavier data use and tighter integration with cloud and AI systems.
Ericsson president and CEO Borje Ekholm said the company sees 6G as central to how artificial intelligence will scale across society, and as a factor in US national security, economic strength, and global competitiveness. The partnership with Qualcomm focuses on testing and refining radio technologies and network architectures that could underpin commercial 6G deployments later in the next decade.
