Can agentic AI fix the network build problem?

Source: RCR Wireless NewsFebruary 28, 2026Read original article on RCR Wireless News →

Broadband projects keep running late and over budget, largely because construction work is labor‑intensive, fragmented, and short on skilled workers. The telecom industry is now testing “agentic AI” as a way to bring order to that chaos. Instead of just analyzing data, these AI systems can plan tasks, coordinate workflows, and trigger follow‑on actions across design, permitting, construction, and inspections.

Vendors and operators see potential in using agentic AI to turn network builds into more predictable, trackable processes: spotting conflicts in designs before crews roll trucks, flagging permitting bottlenecks, scheduling contractors and materials with fewer gaps, and keeping a live picture of project status. The technology does not replace field crews or engineers, but aims to reduce human error, idle time, and rework. Whether it can meaningfully fix chronic delays and overruns will depend on data quality, integration with existing tools, and how much control operators are willing to hand to software agents.
