BT continues to streamline with US federal unit sale

Source: Mobile World LiveJanuary 6, 2026

BT Group has sold its US federal contracting arm, BT Federal, to managed services provider 22nd Century Technologies (TSCTI) for an undisclosed sum, as it continues to narrow its focus on the UK. The unit, which supports US federal institutions across all 50 states, will be renamed 22nd Century Networks and will operate as a wholly owned TSCTI subsidiary. BT says the business helps agencies modernise legacy systems, connect across domains and run secure operations.

The sale is part of BT’s broader effort to simplify its portfolio and concentrate on its core markets. BT International, now a standalone unit, will keep a US footprint through offices and staff in New York, Dallas and Reston, serving multinational customers and pushing secure multi-cloud connectivity services. The deal has Federal Communications Commission approval, and BT states there will be no immediate changes to existing contracts or operations.
