AT&T strikes connectivity deal with AWS, Amazon Leo
AT&T has signed a new deal with Amazon that ties together fibre, cloud, AI and satellites to extend its reach across the US. The operator will move more of its own network workloads onto AWS Outposts, using AWS Professional Services and tools like Amazon Q Developer and other AWS Agentic Services to modernise its infrastructure and cut operating overhead. AT&T says this shift should also make its network more resilient.
On the connectivity side, AT&T will supply fibre links into AWS data centres, giving Amazon more bandwidth for customers running large-scale AI applications. AT&T will also tap Amazon Leo’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network to deliver fixed broadband to business customers in areas with weak or no terrestrial coverage. The companies did not disclose financial terms or the duration of the agreement. AT&T already works with Microsoft Azure on its 5G core under a separate deal signed in 2021.
