Apple taps Google’s Gemini to rebuild Siri’s AI brain
Apple has signed a multi-year deal to use Google’s Gemini models and cloud systems as the backbone for a revamped, AI-heavy version of Siri. In a statement to CNBC, Apple said that after testing different options, it found Google’s technology “provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models” and will support “future Apple foundational models” as well.
The move confirms earlier rumors that Apple would lean on Google, not just its own in-house work, for core AI capabilities. News of the agreement pushed up shares of both companies, underscoring how central large AI partnerships have become to their future products.
