India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) suffered a failure on Sunday, destroying 16 satellites including India’s EOS-N1 Earth observation satellite and 15 payloads for domestic and international customers.
The mission was intended to place EOS-N1 and the co-passenger satellites into orbit for Earth observation and communications services. Instead, the launch malfunction left none of the spacecraft recoverable, marking a setback for India’s otherwise reliable PSLV programme and for the commercial and government users that had booked capacity on this flight.
